The Maya village of San Luis Jilotepéque sits high in the hills on the road to Ipala. Every Sunday there is a huge Maya market that is a great time to immerse yourself in the colours, sounds and flavours of the Mayan culture. The main plaza is a relaxing place to spend an hour or two watching the world go by. Shaded by two giant ceiba trees, there are a couple of replica stelae to have a look at, as well as a nice colonial church to visit.
