This place, along with many other similar villages around the region, shares the same history of revering San Simon or Maximon, the wicked saint. If you want to see his image, you can find it in a pagan chapel in the village. At the pagan chapel, you will also find drunken men, women smoking cigars, and tons of burning candles; all marking individual requests of people. This hamlet is not a famous tourist spot, most of the time the only people you'll meet here are prostitutes, but the shrine is worth visiting. The plaques, from all over the Central American region, mark people’s gratitude for this wicked but revered saint.

Sightseeing
Alcohol is very important here. If you want to experience it, just pay for the limpia, or sould cleansing, which involves some complicated procedures undertaken by one of the resident women workers, including the drinking of local firewater or aguardiente and the spraying of alcohol on you. If you do not want to get so personal, you can still come here on October 28th to watch this on a larger scale and share the excitement with everyone. On this day, San Simon is taken out from the shrine and paraded through the whole village, with much alcohol and dancing marking the pagan celebration.
