This town does not boast anything special except that, on the 1st November every year, Santiago gets lively with the Day of the Dead. This is where huge paper kites are flown in the cemetery, to release the souls of the dead from their suffering. This event is extremely popular, and if you get the chance, you must watch it. It is in fact not just popular with locals, but also among international tourists. The rest of the time, the attraction here would be either the market on Tuesdays or the museum, which displays a good collection of Maya artefacts found locally, along with some traditional costumes.
Getting there
The town of Santiago Sacatepéquez is located just north of the highway, on the way to Santiago. You can easily get here by buses, which follow the branch road that starts off at San Lucas Sacatepéquez.
