The coastal resorts of Guatemala, after leaving San José, are quite attractive in their own way. If you are driving Chulamar will be the first hamlet you will reach. In fact, you can only reach this place by car or taxi, there are no known bus services available. You will find holiday homes dotting the entire coastline. The working classes who are seeking alternative sources of income have built these homes and this is pretty much a standard practice in Guatemala. The unique part here is the strip of sand separated from the land by the muddy waters of the canal. It’s really a very pleasant sight.
