This is one of the oldest settlements in the region, located just after Retalhuleu. Due to its proximity to the highway it is easily accessible. History tells us that this place started as a pre-conquest Kaqchikel village, eventually becoming a very important colonial town. But after some time the focus has moved away to the neighbouring towns of Mazatenango and Retalhuleu. You can still find traces of colonial lifestyle as you stroll down the narrow streets. There are some old buildings styled similarly to the colonial architecture, reflecting a historic past.
