Travelling further along the coast from Likín will bring you to the end of the route, which is the exact location of Iztapa. Once a revered port, this town is now a popular tourist spot. In fact, the port here is the oldest in Guatemala, and this is where the Spanish harboured their fleets, due to the good location. This was also the place used by the Spanish leader Pedro de Alvarado, to build the boats that he used to travel further south by water, and that eventually led to his disappearance. However, these days the situation is completely different. Most people come here for the beach, which is strangely located on the other side of the Canal de Chiquimilla, at a separate village - Pueblo Viejo. This beach is quite famous for its black sand. You can get there easily by taking the ferry across the canal at a very affordable price.
