Puerto San José is the largest city along the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Since the main port of Guatemala got moved from here to Puerto Quetzal, a few kilometres further along, the town has become a bit tacky and run-down. The Canal de Chiquimulilla separates the black sanded beach from the main resort, this is where most of the bars and restaurants are. At the weekend the town becomes quite crowded with big groups of day trippers.
Getting there
There are buses leaving Guatemala City's Zona 4 and heading to Puerto San José roughly every 30 minutes, all day long.
