This is the most densely populated town along the Pacific coast, and also the largest. The name Reu is more familiar with everyone, so don’t get confused when you see this name on buses. It is located just a few kilometres south of the Carretera al Pacifico, and most of the people living here are quite wealthy. Nonetheless, the wealth has not distracted the locals from their traditions. It is one of the best places to visit on the coast.

History and Culture
The Spanish founded this town, when they merged two Mayan villages. It is a well known fact that for many years, even after the town was officially colonized, the women were still following their tradition of not wearing blouses.

Around and closeby
Takalik Abaj, the nearest archaeological site to this town, is about 15km away. This place is worthy of a visit if you are interested in discovering more about the early Maya civilization.

Sightseeing
The plaza is a very good place to hang out. It is pretty modest with some traces of faded authority. The huge Greek columns remind you that the town has a long history. The church is a good place to visit as well, it is large and attractive, built in the colonial style. The park is where most people, especially young couples, hang out. Here, everything runs at a slow and relaxed pace.

Getting there
You can get here by car or bus, for it is located just a few kilometres along the coast from Coatepeque.

Getting around
Most of the town can be covered on foot, especially places like the plaza, the park, and the museum.
