The resort town of Tilapa is simple and not very commercial, despite the fact that it is quite famous among travellers. The town is located on the river Naranjo’s bank, opposite Ocos, and is a good place to hang out. The long, black-sand coast line stretches for miles and is only occasionally interrupted by pleasant little commodores selling fresh prawns and fish.

Around and closeby
A great place to visit is the Reserva Natural El Manchón, which is famous for its turtle-nesting beach, as well as its mangrove swamp which is home to various creatures such as crocodiles, iguanas and much more. It's generally easy to hitch a ride there. You can also explore the wetlands by hiring a boatman who can take you for tours around the canals and lagoons.

Getting there
You can get here by a bus that runs to and from Coatepeque.
