Río Azul is a site of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization. Sak Há Witznal (Clear Water Mountain) is its real name. It is located 80km north-east from Tikal. The Río Azul National park has several sites, the most important is Río Azul.
Sightseeing
The site itself is 3km² with 41 plazas, 752 structures, 21 sculptured stelaes, 26 plain stelas, and 16 altars documented to date. The tallest temple is 47metre high.
Getting there
During the dry season you can get to Río Azul along the road that connects Tikal with Uazactún. In a 4WD it takes about 5 hours. If you are walking or on horse back then the journey will take you about 4 days each way but there are plenty of places to camp along the way.
