Although it doesn’t look like there is much going on in Patzicía nowadays, it was once the site of a brutal massacre. Local indigenous people, believing that the rest of Guatemala was rising up to fight against ladino rule, took to the streets and killed all the ladinos of their village. Of course, when other ladinos found out about this killing, they in turn rose up against the Maya and the killing went on.
