The Parque Nacional Sierra San Pedro Mártir is Baja’s most notable national park, but unfortunately it’s not a place you can easily access with a normal car. You would need a 4WD, at least, to travel safely around. The national park is known for various kinds of animals and birds such as bighorn sheep, bobcats, coyotes, and eagles.
The park covers 650 square kilometres and the granite peaks exceed 3000m. The place is mostly covered by forests, granite peaks, and canyons and these become rewarding views for hikers and mountain climbers.
Sightseeing
One very important place in the Parque Nacional Sierra San Pedro Mártir is the Observatoria Astronomica Nacional, which is located 2km off the San Telmo de Abajo road. From this observatory, you can view almost everything that the clear sky can show you, as far as the Pacific to the west, the Sea of Cortez and the Mexican mainland.
