Catemaco is a charming little town, set in lush surroundings, in the state of Veracruz. It sits on the west side of the idyllic Laguna Catemaco and it has a rather mystical reputation of witchcraft and black magic.

Tourist Offices
The tourist information office is on the Municipalidad, at the northern side of the zócalo. It's open from 9am – 9pm, Monday to Friday, closing between 3 and 6pm.

Around and closeby
Visit the islands in the lake, Isla de los Monos is home to the red-cheeked monkey of Thailand, about 60 of them. On the north-east shore of the lake is the Reserva Ecológica de Nanciyaga, go to this New Age retreat to have your aura cleansed or to have a mud bath. There are boats waiting on the lakeside to take you around the islands.

Getting there
If you're are travelling here from far away then it's probably better to travel via San Andrés Tuxtla or Acayucan as the buses are more frequent.
