Very popular for butterfly watching in the past, this small town is nicely located close to the Sierra Chincua and the El Rosario sanctuaries. It’s quite small, just an old mining town with some winding streets, spread out on a single main drag. Be aware that the locals here are known for their curiosity so don't take offense!

Getting there
Getting here is not difficult, buses are available directly from Mexico City, or from Morelia via Zitácuaro.

Getting around
Bus services are available from the town to the sanctuary, but first you have to take a bus for fifteen minutes to Ocampo, then on to El Rosario by another. Nonetheless, you don’t have to worry about waiting around, there’s always available transport; especially if you go during the season, you can get on the camionetas (open trucks).
