Ciudad Guzmán is a city in the state of Jalisco. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors, this area was the Pre-Columbian kingdom of Zapotlán, which was conquered in 1526. Many colonial treasures and weapons are said to be buried throughout the town's old colonial homes, buildings, and farms. The name of the city may have something to do with Governor Nuño de Guzmán, who governed New Galicia until 1536.
