Dolores Hidalgo is a town with a colourful past. This is where the Mexican independence movement began, in 1810, by Miguel Hidalgo. They fought against the Spanish, and launched rebellions from here. There are not many attractions in town, but Mexicans feel very proud to visit here. Hidalgo was Mexico’s most revered hero, and the town was renamed after him. The Plaza Principle has everything necessary too, such as the tourist office, banks, Internet cafés, and a post office.

Sightseeing
The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Dolores is the church where Hidalgo issued the Grito. It is located on the north side of the plaza. Next to the church is the Presidencia Municipal, which has two colourful wall paintings dedicated to independence. On the west side is the Casa de Visitas, which was once the residence of two representatives of Spanish rule.
