Lying about 22km south-west of Pátzcuaro is Lago de Zirahuén. This lake is much smaller than the Lago de Pátzcuaro but it is much cleaner and it’s deeper as well. The beautiful blue lake has a town on the shoreline, by the name of Zirahuén. You will find more activity and people here than any other place along the shoreline. There are about 2,300 people living here and this small town is a good place for camping and boating purposes. As a foreigner you won’t find much to do here and it’s unlikely that you’ll see any other tourists. Only Mexicans are fond of this place, and they normally come at the weekend.

Sightseeing
Boating is one of the things you can do here. Boat rides are available at different prices according to the size and the amount of people. There are three docks, which are the muelle general or the main dock, the La Troje at Las Cabañas de Zirahuén, and the Los Cedritos near the plaza.

Getting there
Buses travel to the lake daily from Pátzcuaro town.
