Matehuala is an important junction town along the Colonial Heartland route to Mexico City. The scenic road leading there from Saltillo winds up over wooded hills and down into deep, lush and fertile valleys.
Sightseeing
During the two weeks in the middle of January, the town hosts a vibrant fiesta with lots of music, dancing and drinking. Apart from that fiesta there’s not much else going on in town and there’s no point coming here unless you are using it as a jumping off point to visit the nearby mining town of Real de Catorce.
Getting there
You can get here by bus from Mexico City, Saltillo, Monterrey and San Luis Potosí.
