Mexico is a land of volcanic ranges and the Parque Nacional Volcán Nevado de Colima is at an altitude of 4240 metres, it is accessible throughout the year. There was a time when Nevado was covered with a lush green carpet of pine forests although there is much less vegetation now. You can also spot some deer, wild boar, coyotes and if you are really lucky, you will get a glimpse of the mountain lion. The climbing season stretches from December until May. If you are driving up the mountain road to the volcano then taking along a guide is recommended as it is easy to get lost with hundreds of trails around.
