If you are into crafts made from copper, then you might consider visiting the small town of Santa Clara del Cobre, which is located some 18km south of Pátzcuaro. The big mining industry here, mostly for copper, started five centuries back. These days the mines are mostly closed but don’t worry, the town still specializes in the field! There are many workshops around which craft objects from the copper ore.

Sightseeing
There are no natural attractions here. However, it’s still very nice to wander around and you should not miss out the beautiful plaza with an 18th century church, in which the hall pavement is adorned with works of the copper workshops from around the area.

Getting there
The town is easily accessible by buses from Pátzcuaro.
