Although this small and busy city doesn’t hold much interest for tourists as a whole, there are some nice things about the place, especially the fresh baked bread and the trout farms. All the tourist spots are outside the city, but still nearby.
Sightseeing
An interesting building nearby is the Iglesia de San Pancho, which is located in the village of San Pancho, south of Zitácuaro. It’s a restored 16th century church with some modern stained glass windows. The place is actually pretty famous because Prince Charles came here in 2002, and it was featured in a Hollywood film. You can travel up further for about 16km to get to the ruins of Matlanzinca, the Piramides Los Alzati. It’s setting is beautiful and it’s a good place for picnicking.
