Actopan is a small place with a population of merely 26, 000 people. It was founded in 1548, and there are still many buildings today which represent the antiquity. The Convento de San Nicolás de Tolentino is of the finest of Hidalgo’s fortress-monasteries. The church is known for it's lovely plateresque façade and a single tower showing Moorish influence in the state.
The place is also known for Mexico’s olden day history creators, such as monks, frescoes, indigenous nobles, and many more. One very special thing about this place is that it does not change with time, meaning that technology does not affect the culture.
Sightseeing
The most notable event is market day, which falls on Wednesdays, and it has been like that for the past 400 years. This market sells all kinds of things- handicrafts, regional dishes, and much more. There are also other activities, such as visiting the water parks. You are allowed to camp at the parks overnight.
Getting there
Getting there is very easy, you can get there by bus from Pachuca, which runs every 15 minutes.
