Located 10km east of Malinalco is the village of Chalma, which is home to one of the most important shrines in Mexico. History claims that in 1533 the image of Christ, El Señor de Chalma appeared in a cave to replace one of the local gods, Oxtéotl, he cleared all the dangerous beasts and started doing wondrous things. Now the image, or Señor, is in Chalma’s church, which is 200 years younger than the Señor itself. The village is particularly known for it's religious aspects as we can already see. One of the most important events would be the pilgrimages, the biggest would be the Pentecost where people camp and perform traditional dances.

Getting there
The village also has road access like many other Mexican towns and villages. Tres Estrellas del Centro is the bus service available from Toluca, and there are others also from Malinalco.
