Tepoztlán is a town in the Mexican state of Morelos. It is located in the heart of the Tepoztlán Valley.The town is a popular tourist destination and is famous for the remains of a temple built on top of the nearby Tepozteco mountain, as well as for the exotic ice-cream flavours prepared by the townspeople.
History and Culture
Tepoztlán has become a place of reunion for different religions and practices such as New Age, Hare Krishna, the Great Universal Fraternity or traditional pagan religions that survived the Spanish invasion and which merged with Catholicism. The town is known as being a spiritual place where energies and mysticism converge and where even, U.F.O's are spotted regularly. It is also a centre for holistic practices, naturist activity, esoterism and alternative medicine.
Sightseeing
There is a colourful carnival in the five days proceeding Ash Wednesday, featuring dances by the Huehuenches and the Chinelos, dressed in expertly embroidered costumes and beautiful, feather head-dresses.
Getting there
There are buses to Tepoztlán from Mexico City, Cuactla and Cuernavaca.
