Tlaxcala is located about 32km north of Puebla and 120km east of Mexico City. It is a sleepy colonial town, and is the capital of Mexico’s smallest state. The town is quite developed, with all the facilities available. Having a population of about 85,000 people, this town is loved by visitors for its easygoing pace of life.
History and Culture
This town has lots of history. Before the Spanish conquered the lands, there were numerous small warrior kingdoms emerging and disappearing around Tlaxcala. Some of them formed loose federations and remained independent; one would be Tizatlán. Later on after a long fight with the Spanish, the Tlaxcalans became submissive, and they were given privileges and used for pacifying the rest of the state.
