If you’re looking for a place to buy some good pottery then you should visit Atzompa. This small village is one of the leading pottery-making villages around the Valles Centrales. The most interesting place around here is the Mercado de Artesanias, where you can find hundreds of attractive pottery works for sale at unbelievable prices! It is located on the main street. Another tourist spot is the un-restored Pre-Hispanic ruins, which are located on top of a hill at Cerro El Bonete, about 2.5km south of the church in the village centre.
Getting there
Located some 6km north-west of Oaxaca, this village is easily accessible by road. If you’re driving down then just follow the road signs. Drive along the Calz Madero out of Oaxaca, then take a left along Masseu at the big junction on the outskirts of town. Finally, just take a right at the traffic lights after 1.5km. Alternatively, if you want to take the bus, you can catch one from Oaxaca, where buses to Atzompa leave every 10 minutes.
