The village of Cuilapan is located about 9km south-west of Oaxaca. There is a lot of history behind this place, and that's why people come here. Being one of the few Mixtec villages in the Valles Centrales, it’s also the site of an old and historic Dominican monastery, the Ex-Convento Dominicano.

Sightseeing
Just after you enter town you get to a low and unfinished church which has been standing there for more than 400 years without a roof! But it’s simply an architectural wonder, with its long features, huge, broken-off arches, beautiful stoneworks, and discrete detailing. A bit further, you will get to the tomb of Juana Donaji, who was the last Zapotec king.
