The ruins of Dainzú may be small but they are of great importance. The first thing you will see as you enter is Edificio A, a pyramid-like building. It was built some 2,300 years ago, and it is 50metres long and 8metres tall. If you walk along its bottom wall, there are many feline figures, masks and heads, mostly related to the ball game. Below you will see the restored ruins of the ball court, and a sunken tomb, through which you enter Edificio B. Don’t get scared by the crouching jaguar, it is just a symbol to mark the entrance! Walking further up to the top of the hill, in the scrubs, there are more things to see, such as rock carvings similar to those found in Edificio A. But these carvings are hidden, so you'll need a guide, ask the caretaker if he has time to guide you.

Getting there
The ruins of Dainzú are located just twenty-one kilometres from Oaxaca. If you are driving, then just follow along the Mitla road, then take a 1km track south. The ruins can be seen as you approach.
