Long time ago, San José El Mogote was a major settlement in Oaxaca. It had its peak somewhere around 2,500 to 2,650 years ago and then again around 1,850 years ago. At this time, the main plaza was as big as the one in Monte Albán. But now, it's just a restored historical site.

Getting there
You can drive here or take the colectivo taxis from Valles Centrales on Trujano. If you are driving, this small village is located 1.5km westward along the turnoff signposted to Nazareno, which is 14km north-west of central Oaxaca on the Hwy 190.
