A very unique village like this is worth visiting, simply because you’ll see traces of two different cultures in one single place. This village is partly Mixtec and partly Zapotec and was historically one of the only Mixtec-Zapotec city states remaining when the Spanish arrived here. After that, the king converted to Christianity and everything changed.

Sightseeing
The most famous tourist spot here is the Zona Arqueológica, which is located behind the village church, overlooking the main plaza. This is actually a small mixture of mounds where you’ll find two tombs used by the ancient Mixtecs. These tombs are called by Tumba 1 and Tumba 2. Tumba 1 has some notable features like sculptures of owls, a turtle-man figure and many long-nosed skull-like masks. Tumba 2, on the other hand, doesn’t have any decoration but a treasure was found here a long time ago, which is now at the Museo Nacional de Antropológia in Mexico City. You can also see more things, like the excavations process, at the museum.

Getting there
Getting here is easy, there are regular buses from Anasa to Cuilapan stopping here.
