Travelling south from Frontera Corozal, you will enter into Chiapas, and eventually into the region's main town, Benmérito de las Américas. This town is located on the bank of Rio Salinas. There’s nothing much to see around here but the place does have an almost wild west atmosphere. The town’s main street is actually a 1.5km stretch of the Carratera Fronteriza.

Getting there
Getting here is not difficult because bus and combi services are abundant and regular, from Palenque and San Javier and many other places. If you want to travel further out, you can take the lancha from the embarcadero up the Río Salinas and Río de la Pasión to Sayaxché in Guatemala, which is probably the nearest attraction to Benmérito de las Américas, due to the unique Maya ruins there.

Getting around
There are also other means of travelling around or out of here, such as taking the lancha to Laureles in Guatemala. It sounds like Benmérito de las Américas is an entry point to Guatemala but actually it’s just a starting point. There’s no immigration here, so you should get a tourist pass from Frontera Corozal.
