Lacanjá Chansayab is located about 6km from San Javier on the Carretera Fronteriza. It is the largest Lacandon Maya village. With a population of merely 600 people, the family units here are all scattered around. Nowadays low-key tourism is the main source of income, with many of the locals running ‘campamentos’, which have rooms, camping and hammock spaces for tourists looking for accommodation. Accommodations here are very good, and they come with restaurants too.

Sightseeing
Río Lacanjá flows through here, over the grassy lands, and you will have to pass over this river by a bridge to access the village. As tourism is becoming a very good source of income here, the campamentos also offer other activities like guided walks through the forests to the Cascada Ya Toch Kusam waterfall, the ancient Maya Lacanjá ruins, and the Laguna Lacanjá. All these places are actually linked in a trail, which you can access by yourself, but most of the time it’s advised to take the guided tours.
