Located about 20km north of Comalcalco, Paraíso is a very prosperous town, getting its income from two major sources. The first one is the Pemex oil installations on the nearby coast of Dos Bocas, and also from the recreation industry. Recreation is very important for this town due of its wide, sandy beaches that offer the warm, clean waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Travelling west of Paraíso, you will get to Barra de Tupilco, which is a palm covered sand pit with a couple of beautiful lagoons. As you move further the landscape becomes more beautiful, lined with palm trees that are teeming with a variety of birds. Visit Puerto Ceiba where you can enjoy boat rides into Laguna Mecoacán, which is rich with mangroves and migratory birds. You can also rent kayaks and take a relaxing ride through the calm aqua green waters of the lagoon.
