Sitting in the middle of forested hills in southern Tabasco is the small but beautiful riverside village of Tapijulapa. The village is known for having red tile-roofs on white houses, surrounding a 17th century church, together with several shops selling local wicker and wooden crafts. There are plenty of places to sleep and eat around here too.

Around and closeby
Some other attractions within the park would be the waterfall falling into a river with pools where you can take a nice dip. The Cave of the Blind Sardines, 900metres away, is named after the blind fish that inhabit the river. You can’t enter far however, due to the terrible stench inside.

Sightseeing
The nearest attraction here is the beautiful jungle park Villa Luz, which is just five minutes away by boat along the Río Oxolotán from the village’s embarcadero. Boats are easy to catch but you might need help from the local boys. The park’s Casa Museo is about 1km from the docking site. This museum was once the country villa for Tomas Garrido Canabal, the anticlerical governor of Tabasco back in the 20’s and 30’s.
