Teapa is a big, busy town located about 50km south of Villahermosa, in the southern region of Tabasco. It serves as a good base for exploring southern Tabasco’s natural attractions, such as the Grutas del Coconá and the Balneario Río Puyacatengo.

Sightseeing
The Grutas del Coconá are located some 4km north-east of the centre of town, they're a well developed tourist spot. The pathway leading to the caves is concrete-covered and well made and inside there are pools, bats, many stalactites and stalagmites and a small museum containing some Pre-Hispanic ritual items found in the caves. There are trips there every few minutes from Teapa’s central church. Balneario Río Puyacatengo, on the other hand, is not really a natural attraction but rather a man-made one. It’s actually a collection of popular riverside restaurants with bathing spots, located about 3km from town.
