Located in the south-eastern region of Tabasco, among some farmlands and fertile grounds along the voluminous Río Usumacinta, is the town of Tenosique. Most of the time people come here because it is a halt on the route to Guatemala. It's about 60km south-east of this town that the journey to Guatemala actually starts. Boats leave from El Ceibo and travel along Río San Pedro to El Naranjo, Guatemala. But currently there’s a road development going on between the two places.

Sightseeing
The huge river actually starts off about 8km south-west of Tenosique on Hwy 203 and regarding the fact that this distance is ideal for a short trip to and fro, there are many lancha services available on the embarcadero, where you can take the hour and a half journey to the San José canyon and back.
