Chetumal is a city on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. The city is situated on the western side of Chetumal Bay, near the mouth of the Rio Hondo. It's a big city that is more popular with natives than with tourists, because of the duty-free shopping they can do here.
Tourist Offices
There is a tourist office on the corner of Avenida Carmen Ochoa and Avenida 5 de Mayo.
Sightseeing
The city has a Museum of Maya Culture as well as a zoo. Several modern malls have been built, such as the Plaza de Américas mall, which houses a modern cinema, various department stores, eateries and supermarkets.
Getting there
There are daily flights to and from Mexico City as well as some towns in Belize. There are regular buses from Belize City, Campeche, Mérida, Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, Ticul, Tulum, Veracruz, Xcalak and Cancún.
