Cobá is a large, ruined city of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization, located in the state of Quintana Roo. It is spread around five lagoons. A series of elevated stone and plaster roads radiate from the central site to various smaller sites near and far. The site contains several large temple pyramids, the tallest, known as Nohoch Mul, being 42 metres in height. Cobá became a tourist destination shortly after the main road opened, with many visitors visiting the site on day trips from Cancún and the Riviera Maya. There is a small pueblo near the ruins, with some restaurants and small shops selling local crafts.

Getting there
There are regular buses between Tulum and Cobá and there are also buses from Valladolid, Mérida and Chichén Itzá.

Getting around
Local guides are available at the entrance to the site, as well as bicycle rentals to get to some of the farther ruins within the archaeological zone.
