Felipe Carrillo Puerto is the town where the cult of the “talking cross” was founded. The Santuario de la Cruz Parlante stands just to the west of the Pemex station on highway 307. The main plaza of Felipe Carrillo Puerto is a lovely area with a church and a children’s playground.

Sightseeing
On the highway that leads into town, there is a set of ruins consisting of three overgrown pyramids. The area is calm and quiet, it’s a great spot for bird watching, but be sure to wear plenty of insect repellent or else your likely to be eaten alive. On your way back from the ruins you can stop by the Laguna Azul for a cooling dip.

Getting there
There are regular buses from Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Valladolid and Chetumal, all stopping in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
