This beautiful island, with its exquisite beach, is still largely unexplored by foreigners, although it seems like guest houses and hotels are rapidly popping up all over the place. The island is 25km long and 3km wide, known for its endless beaches, beautifully clear waters, and millions of shells in various shapes and colours. Actually the whole island is part of the Yum Balam Reserve, which explains why the environment is still beautiful and untouched. Known for its wonders of flora and fauna, the island is mostly visited from April to October, for views of the flamingoes flocking in huge numbers. However, a lot of the island was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005. Because it hasn't received much support from outside resources or the government, the recovery process is very slow.

Sightseeing
There are many nice things to experience here, such as dolphin watching, whale and shark watching, and so on. The only place they are building is in the town of Holbox, the whole town can be covered easily by foot. The locals here are known for their willingness to help with directions, although you won’t probably need them.
