Ticul is a small city in the west of the Yucatán state. It is located 100km south of the state capital city of Mérida. Ticul was a town of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It has been continuously occupied since at least the 7th century BC. After the Spanish conquest of Yucatán, Ticul was re-established as a Spanish colonial town. Ticul has long been known for the red pottery produced here. In modern times, it is known for its production of shoes as well.

Getting there
There are buses to Ticul from Mérida, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Oxkutzcab, Chetumal, Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
