If you’re looking for a magical place where every sight has a fairytale behind it, Cuapa is the perfect place to spend a day. Cuapa is not far from Juigalpa and you will see the town’s monolithic mountain from the road, indicating which way to go.
Sightseeing
The Virgin of Cuapa is worth a peek since the people of Nicaragua truly believe in her powers—she once appeared in a vision to a local man telling him that Nicaragua would suffer without peace, and it turned out that she was right, so it’s become a location for mass pilgrimages and offerings every year. If you’re in good health and you’re physically fit, you can also attempt the climb to the top of El Monolito de Cuapa; if you get to the top, legend has it that you’ll be enchanted into marrying one of the village women and you’ll stay forever in the small town.
Getting there
There is one hotel, without private restrooms, that is cheap and decent enough for one night.
