If you’re looking for an alternative adventure in ecotourism and you have a lot of time on your hands, you should head out to Nueva Guinea. The town is filled with alternate agricultural farms called fincas, and tourists are encouraged to visit them. At some of the fincas you’ll be able to participate in flour-tortilla making classes, hiking and getting a good look at how cow manure can be turned into natural gas.
Getting there
Buses run to Nueva Guinea hourly from Juigalpa, every two hours from Managua and four times daily from San Carlos, although you may want to take a plane, since the bus rides are long and tedious, down bumpy and sometimes impassable dirt roads.
