Montelimar is a beach on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. The main tourist attraction is the Barcelo Hotel and Resort. The current location of the Barcelo hotel and resort is the old Somoza Estate, the actual home has been transformed into a Casino that over looks the Pacific Ocean. This resort has everything from huge swimming pools to discos and salons. The prices of food, beer, rum and activities are all inclusive and it's a pretty good deal. If you're just on a day trip then you can visit the casino for free or pay $50 to use all the facilities.
Around and closeby
A little further north of Montelimar there is some more accommodation in the form of cabinas. These are very pretty and cheap, and the surfing here is awesome. It's a good spot for activities such as horse riding, snorkelling and fishing, and you might also get to see sea turtles coming up on the beach to lay their eggs.
Sightseeing
While you are here you should visit the Montelimar cave to see the coloured petroglyphs.
Getting there
To get here take the bus from Managua to California and then hitch-hike the rest of the way.
