This sleepy mountain town doesn't have very much to offer tourists. An exception would be the third Sunday in January, when pilgrims from all over the region come to pay their respects to El Señor de Esquipulas or the Black Christ. If you’re interested in events related to myths and legends, then this place might just prove interesting to you. Believers of the religion suggest that the image has miraculous healing powers. The Templo de El Sauce, which is actually a sanctuary, houses the image. The story goes that some eight years ago, when the church burnt down in a major fire, the image survived without any damage. Eventually, the church has been rebuilt and remodelled to what you can see today.

Sightseeing
The town is very renowned for its milk and honey and products made from them. However, these are not the only reasons for El Sauce’s popularity. The natural sights outside the town are equally wonderful. Cordillera Dariense, with its beautiful waterfalls and hiking activities, is a must visit for anyone who loves nature.
