It takes about 45 minutes to get to the town of Nagarote from León. With a population of over 32,000 people, this bustling town is quite clean. It is not really an attractionin itself, but it has been awarded the “Cleanest City in Nicaragua” for the past three years.
Sightseeing
One of the oddest things around is the El Genizaro, or the town’s largest tree, which still has the traces of the hanging body of Cacique Nagrandano until today. In fact the tree is now a national monument, and is about 700 to 1300 years old. Besides that, you can also visit El Templo Parroquail Santiago, which is a lovely adobe building, almost four centuries old. When you get here, don’t forget to try the tasty quesillor, which are sold by pushing-cart vendors.
