Volcán Cosiguina is the main attraction in this nature reserve. Many years ago, this was the tallest volcano in the region, but the 1835 eruption blew half off the real height, and basically destroyed not only the volcano, but everything around it, extending up to several hundreds of kilometres.

Sightseeing
Now, standing at almost one-third of its original height, this volcano is the most popular tourist spot in this area. It is quite a good idea to climb up the mountain, it only takes about three hours on either of the two trails - Sendero La Guacamaya and the Sendero El Jovo. The best part is the forest, which you will pass through. This forest is home to lots of wildlife such as pumas, macaws, spider monkeys, and much more. You can choose whichever way you want to go up, but once you are up there you will not feel like coming down again. The crater lake is just beautiful with its blue-green waters and the lush surroundings. Another place to visit nearby is the Golfo de Fonseca, which is bordered by the largest mangrove in the region. The surroundings here are equally breathtaking. You can also hire boats to visit the islets near Potosí and Punta San José, some good places just to relax by yourself.
