This reserve, unlike the others within the same region, is naturally very active. The place is still being developed, and might have a bright future, looking at the prospects of ecotourism and gold mining in particular.

Sightseeing
The most notable spot in the reserve is the Volcán Telica, which is merely 9km north of León. This active volcano is really worth visiting, at least to see the volcanic activity. Normally, the activity cycles occur every four to five years, although the real eruption was more than two centuries ago. But at the very least you'll get to see gases and pyroclastics coming out of this interesting volcano. If you are looking for dead volcanoes, then you should go for the cones around the base, which are extinct. These would include Cerro Aguero, Loma Los Portillos, and Volcán Rota.
