Located some 20km north of Ocotal, this mountain town is extremely small with a tiny population. But despite its small size, it is quite popular around the region, especially for its tourist spots.

Sightseeing
One of the best spots is the Santuario de la Virgen de la Piedra, where the Virgin of Guadalupe is situated, somewhere on top of a huge rock. This place is actually a pilgrimage site but at other times of the year, it is a famous tourist spot, especially for the beautiful gardens and the lovely spring nearby which locals believe has magical healing powers. A visit to the Cerro Mogoton is recommended, but don't try to climb it. It is the centrepiece of the Reserva Natural Cordillera Dipilto y Jalapa. Not only is it known for its inaccessibility, but there are also minefields around, which make it a very dangerous area.
