Officially declared as a nature reserve eleven years ago, the Reserva Natural Miraflor has been attracting travellers ever since. The name of the reserve comes from the lake in the middle, which is the heart of the reserve. It is privately owned, so do not expect grand things. Unlike other natural reserves in this region, this place gets more popular during the rainy season. If you happen to be here then, do not miss the shrimp cultivation in the rivers, and the famous iguana farm.
Getting there
It’s quite easy to get there by bus, just take the one from Estelí, which is available six times daily, and it takes two to three hours.
